If you have 5 pounds of something, you would divide 3 into the 5 pounds and whatever your answer is, that would be 1/3rd of the 5 pounds. Then just subtract that from the 5 pounds and what is left is the 2/3rds. Or let's say you have 6 cups of something in a recipe and you want to only make 2/3rds of that recipe. Divide 3 into your 6 cups, which will give you 2 cups. Then subtract that 2 cups from your 6 cups and you'll have 4 cups .
